These pre-feminist women form a powerful sisterhood, as they enjoy the rare opportunity to travel outside the country -- something most women in this age can only aspire to -- and one of the few career options that offers them empowerment and respect.

Pan Am is an American period drama television series created by writer Jack Orman. Named for the iconic Pan American World Airways, the series focuses on the pilots and stewardesses of the airline as it operated in the early 1960s at the beginning of the commercial jet age. Sony licensed the rights to the Pan Am name and logo from Pan Am Systems, a New Hampshire–based railroad company that acquired the Pan Am brand in 1998. The pilot episode cost an estimated $10 million. The series, produced by Sony Pictures Television, was picked up by ABC in May 2011 for the 2011–2012 television season. ABC ordered five additional scripts in November 2011. Although episodes of the series depict the characters in various cities around the world, the show is filmed at the Brooklyn Navy Yard and other locations around New York City. The pilot was filmed, in part, at Gold Coast Studios in Bethpage on Long Island. According to Entertainment Weekly magazine, a life-size re-creation of a Pan Am 707 jet is "the biggest star of the series—in all senses". The 707 model is kept in a hangar near the Brooklyn waterfront. Nancy Hult Ganis, a Pan Am stewardess from 1968 to 1976, is one of the show's executive producers and is credited as the series developer; her research for the series was conducted at the Pan Am Historical Foundation and the University of Miami, the location of Pan Am's archives. In addition, Ganis advises the actors, props department, production designers, and costumers in making details of the show as accurate as possible....

Episode Summary:
Once in London, Ted enlists Laura's help to try to make an old flame - Amanda Mason (Ashley Greene) -- jealous, but things don't go the way he expects. Meanwhile, Kate attempts to regain her freedom from her courier duties by agreeing to one last mission for her British contact, but the dangerous assignment not only puts her life in jeopardy but Anderson's as well; Maggie butts heads with a hawkish congressman who disagrees with her political views, but things really heat up when she tries to change his mind about his beliefs and ends up sparking an attraction with him; and back at home, Dean takes Colette to meet his parents and the two discover feelings that have been brewing for a long time.
