Bryan Ruiz's ankle injury means he joins Aaron Hughes, Matthew Briggs and Maarten Stekelenburg on the sidelines.
MATCH PREVIEW

The Premier League season is only four games old but the return of the 'Special One' has so far not been a 'perfect one' or a 'contented one'.

It will have been a long week for Jose Mourinho, which will have reminded him once again that he has inherited a very different Chelsea squad to the one he left six years ago.

It's clearly a team that he is still learning about. He's used 20 different players already in the opening four league matches, with varied success.

He has compared his side to "beautiful young eggs" but that is perhaps slightly misleading - the average age of the starting line-up in the defeat by Basel was 27.

Plenty of clubs would be satisfied with a return of seven points from a possible 12, but the fact that it's the lowest tally in the Roman Abramovich era shows how high the standards and expectations have become.

Mourinho isn't used to defeat, particularly at Stamford Bridge, where of course he's yet to lose in the Premier League. But his team selection and the response from them will be fascinating.

Fulham have often frustrated their west London neighbours, taking a point in all but one of the last five derbies.

Manager Martin Jol hasn't yet been able to field all his attacking talent at the same time and is still bedding in some of his new players but his team have only won twice and lost eight times in their last 12 matches.

Mourinho is never far away from any headline, but an unthinkable third straight defeat in eight days would be the only back page news on Sunday morning.
MATCH FACTS

Head-to-head

Fulham have only beaten Chelsea once in 34 league and cup meetings, a run spanning 34 years.
That solitary win was 1-0 at Craven Cottage in March 2006, when Luis Boa Morte scored the only goal.
Chelsea have not lost this fixture at home since October 1979, when Fulham won 2-0 in the old Second Division courtesy of goals by Gordon Davies and John Beck.
Fulham's last top-flight victory at Stamford Bridge came in March 1964.
Four of the last five league meetings have ended in draws.

Chelsea

With seven points from four games, the Blues have made their poorest start to a Premier League season since Roman Abramovich bought the club in 2003.
Chelsea are unbeaten in their last 11 Premier League games at Stamford Bridge (W9, D2).
Their last home defeat was against near neighbours QPR on 2 January.
Jose Mourinho has never lost a Premier League home game (W48, D14).
If goals from strikers were excluded this season then Chelsea would be top of the table.

Fulham

The Whites are often considered poor travellers but they have claimed 12 league points away from Craven Cottage this calendar year, compared to just 11 on home turf.
Martin Jol's side have won two of their last 12 top-flight matches (W2, D2, L8).
Prior to this weekend, Fulham had conceded more corners than any other Premier League side so far this season (32).
They have managed only 11 shots from inside the penalty area this season, the lowest figure in this season's Premier League.

Darron Gibson is also fit, but Steven Pienaar (hamstring) is a doubt.
MATCH PREVIEW

West Ham and Everton both scored twice on the opening day of the season, but since then fans have been starved of goals. Steven Naismith did score Everton's winner against Chelsea last weekend, but that has been the only goal in the last six league matches played by these two sides.

Four of the eight league matches they have played between them have ended goalless. Add in the facts that the shot-shy Hammers have conceded just once in their four games and both have kept three clean sheets out of four and you have all the ingredients for a stalemate that closes this weekend's Match of the Day.

However, I am always optimistic that whatever match I am commentating on will be a fantastic 90 minutes; after all, if we could all predict what is going to happen based on previous form all bookmakers would be bankrupt.

It's actually the sort of scenario where something unexpected happens, maybe to someone who you don't expect to feature. What price Everton's longest-serving player Tony Hibbert making his first appearance of the season and scoring his first competitive goal?

Hibbert made his debut for Everton against West Ham back in 2001, and he has scored a few own goals against the East London side in recent years. Could this be the weekend he finally breaks his duck and scores at the right end? Sadly, I doubt it.

Everton will surely give a debut to Romelu Lukaku, who scored 17 Premier League goals on loan at West Bromwich Albion last season.

The Belgium international's signing on loan from Chelsea for the season was a real coup for manager Roberto Martinez, and the fact that Lukaku will link up with countryman Kevin Mirallas may well reap instant rewards for the visitors, who have an excellent record in recent years against West Ham.
MATCH FACTS

Head-to-head

Everton are unbeaten in their last 11 games in all competitions against West Ham (W7, D4).
The Hammers have only managed one point from their last five home matches against Everton, who came from behind to win 2-1 last season.
There have been three red cards in the last three Premier League meetings of these sides.

West Ham

West Ham have failed to win or score in their last three league matches (D2, L1). They last failed to score in four successive Premier League games in October 2006.
They have managed only six shots on target so far this season, fewer than any other side in the Premier League.
However, Sam Allardyce's side have only conceded one league goal (against Stoke) - the division's joint-best defensive record alongside Tottenham.
The Hammers have attempted fewer passes (938) than any other side this season and have the worst passing accuracy (72%), according to Opta.

Everton

Everton and Liverpool are the only unbeaten Premier League sides this season.
The Toffees are one of five Premier League teams, including West Ham, to have kept three clean sheets in their opening four games.
They are winless in their last 10 Premier League away matches since beating Newcastle on 2 January (D6, L4).
Everton have attempted (681) and completed (517) more passes in the final third of the pitch than any other side this season.
Striker Nikica Jelavic has only scored once in his last 26 Premier League appearances - as a substitute against Manchester City in March.

Emanuele Giaccherini has recovered from a hamstring problem but Wes Brown is ruled out by a calf injury.
MATCH PREVIEW

After just a month of the new season it would seem churlish to attach too much significance to a meeting of the Premier League's bottom two.

However, history has shown that recovering from a bad start can be problematic in the world's most unforgiving division.

This time last season, for example, both Reading and QPR already languished in the bottom three; the die cast, they barely moved for the remainder of the campaign.

This weekend's loser may feel decidedly insecure and a look at the challenges that lie ahead will only add to that concern.

For West Brom, who only celebrated their first league goal of the season last weekend, trips to Old Trafford, the Britannia Stadium and Anfield are lined up, with a visit from Arsenal sandwiched in between.

Sunderland host Liverpool and Manchester United before a 350-mile trip to Swansea precedes their derby with Newcastle. It all points to Saturday's events taking on greater importance than they might otherwise have done.

Both clubs are winless in their last eight games stretching back to April. The Baggies have actually only won one of their last 13 and none in front of their own fans since 9 March. Paolo Di Canio's two victories early in his reign are the only wins Sunderland have recorded since January!

Statistics aside though, the potential debut of Stephane Sessegnon adds a final delightful twist to this fascinating tale.

A work permit delay means that his long-awaited bow will now come against the manager who deemed him surplus to requirements - surely his name will be the first on Steve Clarke's team sheet?

MATCH FACTS

Head-to-head

West Brom are chasing a fourth successive win against Sunderland, and have won six of their previous seven Premier League games against the Black Cats (W6, D1).
Sunderland have only won one top-flight game at the Hawthorns in 31 years - a 1-0 victory in January 2006 when Anthony Le Tallec got the only goal.

West Bromwich Albion

With two points from four games, the Baggies have made their worst start to a top-flight season since 1985.
West Brom are winless in eight league games (D3, L5).
They claimed 33 of 49 points in the first half of the 2012-13 campaign, but since then have taken just 18 points from 23 games (including this season).
Nicolas Anelka has scored seven goals in 10 Premier League appearances against Sunderland.

Sunderland

The Black Cats won two of their first three games under Paolo Di Canio, but since then have claimed three points from eight league matches (D3, L5).
They have failed to keep a clean sheet in those eight games, conceding a total of 17 goals.
Their win at Newcastle in April is their only victory in their last nine away league games (W1, D1, L7).
Steven Fletcher has scored three goals in four Premier League games against West Brom.

Hull captain Robert Koren has broken a bone in his right foot and faces up to eight weeks out, while Maynor Figueroa has been granted compassionate leave.

Paul McShane is out with a hamstring injury, but striker Yannick Sagbo returns from suspension.
MATCH PREVIEW

As a boy, Danny Graham was a Magpies fan, but his association with Sunderland - and he played in their 3-0 win at Newcastle in April - means he won't be receiving a hometown welcome at St James' Park.

The Hull striker has not scored in any game since January. If he takes part in this one it will be his 22nd outing since last finding the back of the net. Steve Bruce must decided whether to stick with him up front or to pick Yannick Sagbo, who is available again after suspension.

Bruce admits to crawling under the turnstiles to support Newcastle as a boy. Like Graham, the Hull boss also knows what it feels like to be booed by the supporters he used to be among.

The Gallowgate End doesn't take kindly to former Sunderland players or managers, and Bruce can surely still hear the jeers ringing in his ears after his old side was famously on the receiving end of a 5-1 thumping in a Tyne-Wear Derby in 2010. He claims the 48 hours that followed that defeat were the most difficult he has had to face in football.

After a worrying start, Newcastle's early-season form has turned around nicely. The impressive form of Hatem Ben Arfa has papered over many cracks. Picking the ball up deep around the half-way line and thrusting forward, Ben Arfa has been combining the roles of playmaker, flying winger and goalscorer.

It's imperative for Newcastle that those goals keep coming, and not fade once the firm pitches of August and September turn softer. Last season Ben Arfa scored twice in his first three games, but then only found the net twice more to the end of the campaign.

Newcastle won only twice on their league travels last year, and that sort of record adds a huge importance to getting things right at home.
MATCH FACTS

Head-to-head

Newcastle and Hull have only met twice in the Premier League. They drew 1-1 at Hull in March 2009, while Hull won 2-1 at Newcastle in September 2008.
The highest-scoring match between the two clubs was in their first-ever league meeting, on Christmas Day in 1934, when Newcastle won 6-2 in the old Division Two.

Newcastle United

Newcastle haven't won three Premier League games in succession since a spell of six on the spin in March-April 2012.
The Magpies have kept clean sheets in their last two Premier League home games, but have also scored just one goal in their last five Premier League games at St James' Park.
Hatem Ben Arfa has registered more attempts from open play than any other Premier League player this season (13).
Cheik Tiote has picked up only one yellow card in his last nine Premier League appearances after collecting 31 yellows and one red in his previous 67 appearances.
The Ameobi brothers (Shola and Sammy) are yet to record a shot on target this season in 206 minutes of play.

Hull City

Hull have won only one of their last 11 games in the Premier League, drawing four and losing six.
The Tigers' last five Premier League fixtures have produced just seven goals.
Danny Graham has now gone 20 Premier League appearances without scoring, with his last top-flight goal coming on 1 January 2013.

MATCH PREVIEW

"This Is Anfield". It's only a sign, but it's the reason Liverpool's tunnel is arguably the most famous in world football - and a sign that might be starting to resonate with visiting teams again.

Liverpool are 10 home games unbeaten, with only West Brom having left Anfield victorious in 2013 - a year in which Liverpool have so far won seven home league games. At this same stage of 2012, the Kop had only celebrated two successes and wouldn't cheer a third for another month.

Another home win here would give the Reds their best ever points total after five games of a Premier League season, and keep them on top of the pile for at least another week - when Luis Suarez can return.

Signs of exciting times ahead then? Well, yes, but in a back-to-front way I think the most exciting thing about Liverpool's start is that few seem to be getting TOO excited. There was even talk of a "reality check" from Monday's 2-2 draw at Swansea - a result most teams would happily shake hands on before kick-off.

Southampton drew last week, too, with their failure to turn umpteen chances into goals the reason they couldn't beat West Ham at home. Indeed, it's been a problem for Saints going back to last season, with only four scored in their last nine league games.

Mauricio Pochettino isn't concerned with those raw numbers, however, and is backing his potent-looking strike force to "stop making heroes out of opposing goalkeepers". A statistic he's much more interested in is that his team boasts the second-highest amount of possession in the league.

With Suarez completing his ban and Philippe Coutinho out injured (a player Pochettino likened to Lionel Messi when he had him at Espanyol), is this the right time to visit Anfield? Maybe, but another stat might be telling - the one at the top below.
MATCH FACTS

Head-to-head

The last five meetings between these two teams have all been won by the home side.
Southampton's 3-1 victory over Liverpool in March was the Reds' most recent Premier League defeat.

Liverpool

Liverpool are unbeaten in their last 12 league matches since that defeat at Southampton in March.
Liverpool's next win will be their 400th in the Premier League.
The Reds have won 1-0 in their first two home league games of the season.
All five of Liverpool's goals in the Premier League this season have come before half-time.
Daniel Sturridge has scored in all of Liverpool's matches so far in this campaign (four Premier League, one League Cup). He is the first Reds player to score in the first four games in a Premier League season.
Lucas has been booked in each of his last three Premier League appearances.

Southampton

Southampton's only league win so far this season came away from home - at West Brom on the opening day.
Saints have won just one of their last 10 Premier League matches.
They have scored just four goals in their last nine top-flight matches.
Rickie Lambert has scored more goals (two) for his country than his club (one) this season.
Southampton have averaged the second-highest possession figure this season (59.1%).
They have allowed only nine shots on target this season - fewer than any other side, while Liverpool have conceded the second most (22).

Aston Villa defender Ciaran Clark is expected to start in place of Jores Okore, who could miss the rest of the season with a cruciate ligament injury.

Nathan Baker has recovered from the ankle problem he sustained in the opening-day win at Arsenal.
MATCH PREVIEW

It's far too early to make predictions with any real confidence, but it is beginning to look as though Norwich and Aston Villa will be knocking around in the same section of the Premier League table for much of the campaign.

The Canaries' problem last season was goalscoring, and with former Celtic striker Gary Hooper yet to make his debut because of injury it's hard to say whether they have really solved that.

Ricky van Wolfswinkel is yet to get into his stride and Johan Elmander's game has never been about his goal ratio. Hooper was on the bench at Tottenham last weekend and will be hoping to get his boots dirty against Villa.
By far Norwich's biggest plus so far has been Nathan Redmond, who looks the real deal when he cuts in from the left wing onto his right foot - rather like Hatem Ben Arfa only from the other flank.

Redmond's ability to vary and disguise his threat will improve with experience but the raw materials are there.

There's no disguising Villa's threat - Christian Benteke has scored 20 goals in 2013 in all competitions. That's one more than nearest rival Robin van Persie and three more than the next best, Daniel Sturridge.

It's really just as well that Benteke has been so prolific this calendar year because Villa's last Premier League clean sheet was back in 2012 and their search for defensive solidity has not been helped by the long-term injury to Jores Okore.

The stellar result on the opening day at Arsenal has been followed by three defeats, which is their worst run since they were beaten by Chelsea, Spurs and Wigan in successive games last December with a combined score of 15-0.

However tough it gets for Villa this season, it shouldn't get as bad as that.
MATCH FACTS

Head-to-head

Aston Villa won on both visits to Carrow Road last season: 4-1 in a League Cup quarter-final last December, and then 2-1 in the Premier League in May when Gabby Agbonlahor scored his second goal of the game in the last minute.
That was only Norwich's second home defeat in their last 14 league meetings with Villa (W7, D5, L2).

Norwich City

The 2-1 loss against Villa in May is Norwich's only defeat at Carrow Road in 11 league matches in 2013 (W4, D6, L1).
However, the Canaries are aiming to earn successive home wins for the first time since December.
Their solid home form has offset a poor away record of one victory and five points from the last 12 games.
Norwich, like Villa, have yet to lead at half-time this season.

Aston Villa

Villa have gone 26 league games without a clean sheet, the longest current run in the top flight. They conceded a Premier League club record 69 goals last season.
The Villans are the only team to have conceded the opening goal in all four of their Premier League fixtures to date this season.
They were the only top-flight club to earn more points away (21) than at home (20) last season.
Christian Benteke has scored 18 Premier League goals in 2013, more than any other player in the division.
Paul Lambert won 70 of his 142 matches in charge of Norwich between August 2009 and May 2012, drawing 35 and losing 37.

Otherwise, Steve Lomas is likely to stick with the side which secured a first league victory of the season.
MATCH FACTS

Head-to-head

• Charlton have failed to score in their last three league games against Millwall, since the clubs shared eight League One goals at the Valley in December 2009.

• Millwall have won twice as many away league games against Charlton than they have lost (W14, D12, L7).

• It's 17 years since Charlton last beat the Lions; 2-0 at home at second league level in March 1996.

Charlton Athletic

• The Addicks have failed to win five of their six league games and their tally of five points, is identical to the haul gained at this same stage last season.

• Chris Powell's side have not kept a clean sheet so far in this Championship campaign, and have completed 15 league matches at the Valley without a shut-out since a 2-0 victory over Peterborough on 27 November last year.

• If on the field from the outset, Michael Morrison will be making his 100th start in Charlton colours.

Millwall

• The Lions gained an unexpected 3-1 home win over high-riding Blackpool on Tuesday, notching their first league maximum of the season, and first in 12 Championship outings.

• Steve Lomas is still to see his new club take a lead into the second-half of a Championship game; the only club with such a distinction.

• If he plays a part, Richard Chaplow, a second-half substitute against Blackpool, will be making his 300th club appearance.
