The show centers on protagonist Jackson "Jax" Teller (Charlie Hunnam), the Vice President of the club who begins questioning the club and himself. Sons of Anarchy premiered on September 3, 2008 on cable network The CW. Its second season debuted on September 8, 2009, and its third season began on September 7, 2010. The third season of the series attracted an average of 4.9 million viewers per week, making it The CW's highest rated series ever, surpassing The CW's other hits The Shield, Nip/Tuck, and Rescue Me. On the eve of Opie's wedding, Jax proposes to Tara, who accepts when Jax explains that he plans to leave the club. The Sons prepare to trade guns with the Russians, using the guise of Opie's wedding as a cover to avoid the law. In retaliation for an attack on Jax in prison, SAMCRO betray the Russians and murder several of the group - including an undercover agent working with Potter. After Gemma finds one of Maureen's notes in Tara's belonging she questions Clay on the allegiance of Jax and Tara to the club. Eventually she asks Tara about the notes, who openly denies knowledge of their existence.
