MATCH PREVIEW

This is a "Signpost Sunday" derby. Arsenal's recovery from their opening-day defeat by Aston Villa will only be rubber-stamped by a 12th home league win in 15 meetings with their foes. Victory followed by a couple of major signings will bode well for the future. Defeat and the Gunners will be another lurch away from crisis.
LAWRO'S PREDICTION
Image of Mark Lawrenson Mark Lawrenson Football analyst

"The north London derby is always explosive and to add to it this year is the fact that it's been like chalk and cheese between these two rivals when it comes to the transfer market this summer.

"Arsenal don't appear to have any form of transfer policy. What have they been doing for the past three months?"

Read Lawro's full prediction and score

Tottenham's bold start to the campaign would be seriously undermined by a third defeat on the spin at the Emirates. But a second away league triumph at Arsenal since 1993 should see Spurs regarded as genuine early season title challengers.

Arsenal have thumped in five goals in each of the last two home north London derbies. But the search goes on for a star striker, in Olivier Giroud, Theo Walcott and the injured Lukas Podolski they have three players capable of 20 goals a season.

Although Tottenham are looking for a fourth league clean sheet on the spin for the first time since 2010, Arsenal have the pace and power to net against them. They've also had a day extra to prepare.

But at the other end a boy raised on derby matches between Corinthians, Sao Paulo and Palmeiras could have a major say. Paulinho has made a terrific start in Spurs' new team of giants.

Physically they are now a match for anyone. Only Eden Hazard has created more chances than Nacer Chadli so far, while Etienne Capoue is a colossus in front of the back four. He allows Mousa Dembele the freedom to play-make and Paulinho the liberty to bomb forward behind Roberto Soldado.

I can see Capoue handling the forward runs of the creative Arsenal midfielders, although his rash tackling and temperament need to be curbed or we will see a third Spurs player sent off in three years in this fixture. But I can't see which Arsenal player will shackle Paulinho.

No Premier League fixture has thrown up more goals than this one. There hasn't been a goalless draw at Arsenal between the two in 15 years. I can see them sharing four more. This Sunday's "signpost" may not reveal too much about the long term. It'll be too fierce and frantic.
