last week at Newcastle has left them in a big fight for a Champions
League spot next season. They are looking a defensively fragile side and a bit of a spent force.
Wigan though are once again in relegation worries as they can’t get
wins on the board and they can’t stop conceding goals. It was a 2-0 win
at the DW Stadium for Chelsea on the opening weekend of the season, Rafa Benitez will want a more convincing scoreline than that.

Chelsea squandered a 1-2 lead to lose in the final minute at Newcastle 3-2. The defeats leaves the Blues in 3rd place but the chasing pack down to 6th placed Arsenal are within 5 points of them.
The current Champions League holders have 1 win in 4 league games. They were 0-2 up at Reading and drew 2-2, 2-0 up over Southampton and drew and then there was Newcastle as mentioned above.
At home it's 1 loss in 7 but only 2 wins with a very high 4 draws. Stamford Bridge isn't the fortress it once was and very few visiting here especially after 2 promoted sides have taken points off the Blues in recent weeks.
No home clean sheet in 3 is a concern but it's not as bad as their record of not scoring in 3 of the last 6 here. To be fair Chelsea has scored 4 in their last 2 home games so maybe they have found their scoring touch. However, with Cech not 100% and Terry out defensively they are fragile.
Wigan Athletic
Wigan Athletic drew 2-2 with Southampton last time out. Their draws leaves them in 18th place with the gap to safety 2 points ahead of this tough away game.
Martinez's side have lost just 1 of their last 4 with all 3 games ending as draws. 1 win in 12 is a concern and despite Chelsea's poor form it's hard to see an away win on Saturday.
The away form is good with 5 points from a possible 9 in a 3 game unbeaten run. Prior to that they lost 4 straight and 7 of the last 8 but Wigan have improved in recent weeks and certainly won't lie down for Chelsea.
It's 5 straight games where Wigan has score on the road. 2 of the last 3 it's more than once and against a poor defence we could see a Wigan goal. 1 clean sheet in 7 won't help them at the other end and I believe Wigan need at least 1 if not 2 goals for a point on Saturday.
