This creates a butterfly effect influencing the main characters' pasts. Peter is pulled into this new timeline due to Fringe's actions, and after some difficulty, is learned to be trusted by both Fringe division, and soon offered help to figure out how to return to his original timeline. This action is spurred further when September, dying from a fatal wound, tells Peter that entering the Machine was needed to undo September's mistake by eliminating Henry though Peter's erasure, but that Peter's child with his Olivia in the original timeline would eventually lead to the creation of the Observers. The two sides start to work together when Peter recognizes Jones, who in this timeline, had successfully crossed to the parallel universe without Peter to stop him. Jones is using a new army of shapeshifters to perform questionable acts in both universes. Jones, working with a version of Nina Sharp, has been injecting Olivia with Cortexaphan, making her susceptible to the implanting of Olivia's memories from the original timeline by Peter. Peter decides to leave this Olivia, fearing what he has done to her, re-invigorating his search for a way back to the original timeline........
Season Summary:
A television drama centered around a female FBI agent, Olivia Dunham, who is forced to work with a brilliant (but possibly insane) scientist who was being held in a mental institution, in order to rationalize a brewing storm of unexplained phenomena. Fringe explores mysteries of the paranormal as well as the relationships between the characters, and is steeped in mythology.
Storyline:
The FBI teams up with a formerly-institutionalized scientist - who was performing experiments on the fringe of real science - and his son to investigate weird crimes that are seemingly part of a larger pattern, and may be connected with a global company called Massive Dynamics.
Lincoln travels to the other side to join forces with Bolivia and his own alternate, as they search for a vigilante with a surprising connection to the shapeshifters.
