Pan Am is an American period drama television series that premiered on September 25, 2011 on ABC. The series was created by Jack Orman, who also serves as executive producer alongside, Nancy Hult Ganis, Thomas Schlamme and Steven Maeda. The series is based in the 1960s and follows the pilots and stewardesses of the then-world famous Pan American World Airways during the infancy of the commercial jet age and the jet setter. The pilot episode cost an estimated $10 million. The series, produced by Sony Pictures Television, was picked up by ABC in May 2011 for the 2011–2012 television season. Although episodes of the series depict the characters in various cities around the world, the show is filmed at the Brooklyn Navy Yard and other locations around New York City. The pilot was filmed, in part, at Gold Coast Studios in Bethpage on Long Island. According to Entertainment Weekly magazine, a life-size re-creation of a Pan Am 707 jet is "the biggest star of the series—in all senses". The 707 model is kept in a hangar near the Brooklyn waterfront. Nancy Hult Ganis, a Pan Am stewardess from 1968 to 1976, is one of the show's executive producers, writers, and series developers; her research for the series was conducted at the Pan Am Historical Foundation and the University of Miami, the location of Pan Am's archives. In addition, Ganis advises the actors, props department, production designers, and costumers in making details of the show as accurate as possible. One aspect of the series lacking authenticity for the era is the number of non-smoking characters; smoking was common during the time period among stewardesses while on flights and in the terminal. "ABC-Disney nixed the use of tobacco by key stars", though extras and guest cast may be seen smoking....

Episode Summary:
As the crew flies to Caracas, a dashing, wealthy passenger, Miguel (Aaron Diaz), charms the stewardesses with invitations to his yacht. Meanwhile another passenger, Henry Belson, suffers a heart attack, but there is no doctor on board to help out. The only hope of saving his life is to land in nearby Haiti to seek medical help. However, Haiti is a hotbed of local political unrest, reeling from tropical storms which downed trees and affected power -- including the lights on the damaged runway. Colette and Ted team up to to make the dangerous trek for medical help.
