Person of Interest is an American crime drama television series broadcasting on CBS. It is based on a screenplay developed by J. J. Abrams and Jonathan Nolan. The series was officially picked up by CBS on May 13, 2011, and debuted on September 22, 2011. 13 episodes have been ordered for the first season. Mr. Finch (Michael Emerson), a mysterious billionaire, has developed a computer program that predicts the identity of people connected to violent crimes that will take place in the future. However, the program has its limitations; for example, it cannot predict whether the person will be a victim, perpetrator, or witness, nor can it predict when or where the crime will take place. Unable to stop the crimes on his own, Finch hires John Reese (Jim Caviezel), a former CIA field officer who is presumed dead, to help stop the crimes from taking place. The pilot episode establishes that Finch originally built the machine for the government as a means to prevent another 9/11-type disaster, but found that it was also predicting many "irrelevant" crimes. Finch built a backdoor into the machine that, before erasing the "irrelevant data" each night, sends Finch a list of Social Security numbers of people who will be involved in those crimes. Finch also reveals that the world thinks that he, like Reese, is dead. According to CBS, Person of Interest received the highest test ratings of any drama pilot in 15 years, what one CBS executive called "crazy broad appeal you don't usually see." The ratings prompted CBS to move CSI, which had occupied that slot for over 10 years, to Wednesday 10/9c to make room for Person of Interest....
Storyline:
A computer genius named Finch developed a machine for the government that is used to detect information leading to acts of terrorism before they happen. The machine separates the information gathered into two categories: relevant and irrelevant. Finch, however, discovered that the irrelevant information often led to other acts of violent crime. So, he, before going underground, developed a back door into the system which only spits out the social security number of a central person involved in the crime. Supposedly dead in the authority's eyes, Finch hires John Reese, an ex-CIA special operations agent, who, too, dropped out of life after his girlfriend was killed the result of a professional incident, and as he was dissatisfied with the government's handling of the situation. Like Finch, Reese is officially listed as dead. Finch convinces Reese that in working for him to prevent the crime associated with the social security number...
