The gang get together to mark the first anniversary of Alex and Dave’s non-wedding, which leads Alex and Dave to decide that they should be honest with each other. Penny buys and moves into a new condo that she believes is cursed, and at her new place, she throws a roaring 20s party. Happy Endings was officially renewed for a second season on May 13, 2011. On July 22, 2011, it was reported that Megan Mullally will have a recurring role in the upcoming season, playing the role of Penny's mother. Fred Savage, who has directed several episodes, will appear as himself in the Halloween episode airing in October. Sportscaster Brent Musburger will also make a cameo appearance in this episode. Other announced guests for season two include Nicole Anderson, Matt Besser, Megan Park, Rob Riggle, Derek Waters and Larry Wilmore. As well as return appearances by Stephen Guarino as Derrick, Rob Huebel as Mr. Fitzgerald, June Diane Raphael as Melinda Shershow, Brett Gelman as Carl, Danielle Schneider as Dianne, Seth Morris as Scott, and Paul Scheer as Avi. It was also mentioned that it was likely Damon Wayans would make a return appearance as Brad's father.
