The movie “Mankatha” is named like that, after the very famous Indian Card game. Shooting of the film officially commenced on 2nd August 2010. Coincidently, the Shooting of this film commenced on the 18th Anniversary day of Ajith’s Entry into the film industry.

Venkat Prabhu was in plans to create a multi-starrer movie like “Mankatha” from a very longtime. When Venkat narrated the Story, and as Ajith accepted to do this movie, he finalized the Story. But, even before finalizing this movie, Venkat Prabhu has narrated 3 different Stories to Ajith. But, Ajith preferred to do this Script, which has some grey shades in his Character.
