MATCH PREVIEW

Would it be too much to ask for a game as exciting as last weekend's at Goodison? I suspect that it would, especially given recent meetings between these teams.

Neither has scored more than once in seven of their last eight clashes, the exception being a 2-0 Stoke victory at the Britannia Stadium on New Year's Day 2011.
LAWRO'S PREDICTION
Image of Mark Lawrenson Mark Lawrenson Football analyst

"Everton put in a real rock and roll performance against Liverpool in what was far and away the best derby game I have ever seen. I cannot think of a better one.

"I am expecting a similar high-tempo attacking approach from Everton this weekend too. Because of the way they went at Liverpool last week, I don't think the crowd will let them sit back against Stoke and just knock the ball around."

Read Lawro's full prediction and score

A Stoke win this time is, on the face of it, the most unlikely outcome. They've only made victorious trips home from Everton twice in 22 visits since 1966, and have gathered only four points from six away games this season.

All in the past perhaps, but the present has thrown up a problem too, with Mark Hughes having to change the centre of his defence for the first time.

Losing Robert Huth to injury would always be a blow, but it could be particularly significant on Saturday given they face the threat of Romelu Lukaku.

It could mean more responsibility on the shoulders of Ryan Shawcross - but then he does like to be in the thick of it against Everton.

In last December's 1-1 draw he scored an own goal, set up the Stoke equaliser and got head-butted by Marouane Fellaini! There's at least one worry that's gone away.

Going back to Lukaku, his two goals against Liverpool last week mean that he's currently got the best minutes-per-goal ratio (118) of any player with at least 20 Premier League goals - better than the likes of Thierry Henry, Ruud van Nistelrooy and Alan Shearer.

I'm still mystified by Jose Mourinho's decision to loan him out again.

Everton have only lost one Premier League game this season, fewer than anyone else, and have only had more points at this stage once before. For all that, Roberto Martinez would like to see a few more wins and a few fewer draws. (Phew!)

With games away to Manchester United and Arsenal to start December, winning this would seem to be all the more important.
MATCH FACTS

Head-to-head

The last seven meetings have produced just nine goals.
The Potters have won two of 10 Premier League games against the Toffees.
Stoke won 1-0 at Goodison Park on 4 December 2011, but that is their only victory there in the last 32 years.

Everton

The Toffees are unbeaten in the league at Goodison Park in 2013 (W10, D5).
Their most recent home defeat was in their final game of 2012, a 2-1 defeat to Chelsea on 30 December.
They have lost just one Premier League game this season, fewer than any other side.
However, their tally of six draws is a league high, along with West Brom.

Stoke City

The Potters have scored eight times in their last four league games, having netted just four times in their opening eight matches.
Stoke are one of three Premier League sides yet to score a header this season. They have registered the joint-fewest headers on target in the top flight (4).
Eleven of the 14 Premier League goals they have conceded this season have come in away matches.
Glenn Whelan completed all 63 of his passes against Sunderland. Since 2006-07, only one player has made more faultless passes - Swansea's Leon Britton (67) against Bolton in October 2011.
