On the other end of the spectrum is Whitney and Alex's next-door neighbor Mark (Dan O'Brien), a police officer and total bachelor, who claims to be the ultimate player, but likes to talk a good game. At the end of the day, Whitney and Alex try to have a relationship on their own terms - in a world that expects a more traditional approach.

The show stars Whitney Cummings (based on her real-life experience and her comedy routines). On September 25, 2011, the pilot of Whitney was multipurposed on various NBCUniversal networks, including Oxygen, E!, Style and Bravo; it last aired on E!. The series follows Whitney Cummings, as she portrays a fictionalized version of herself, and her very supportive live-in boyfriend. Even though the two have decided that they will not commit to marriage, she does question how committed they are in their 3-year relationship and tries to go as far to prove a point; she begins to fear what she sees as "relationship boredom" and worries what will happen next that could possibly end her relationship. Because of what she sees and hears around her involving other relationships, she decides to use unconventional methods to keep the romantic flames glowing with the help of her close friends. Episode 4 of the series titled "A Decent Proposal" reveals that the show is set in Chicago. This will be one of two sitcoms that Cummings will serve as co-creator and producer, as her Warner Bros. Television project for CBS, 2 Broke Girls was picked up at the same time as Whitney. For this one, Cummings also serves as the executive producer, creator and writer with Scott Stuber, Quan Phung and Betsy Thomas for Universal Media Studios. Beverly D'Angelo originally played Patti in the pilot episode before being officially replaced by Kaczmarek. D'Angelo's scenes in the pilot were refilmed with Kaczmarek as a result....
Episode Summary:
After an argument over whether or not Alex uses a condescending "tone," Whitney decides she is going to catch her boyfriend in the act and enlists Mark's help. The two scheme to set up a hidden camera in the couple's apartment. Lily, Roxanne and Neal gather around the television to watch the drama unfold. Later, Alex's brother Brian crashes on the couch, and old sibling rivalries come to the surface causing the two brothers to brawl.
