But all that glitters isn't gold, and in the back rooms and alleys behind the club, life happens - both good and bad. Nick Dalton (Eddie Cibrian) is the ultimate playboy and one of the city's top attorneys, rubbing elbows with everyone in the Windy City's power structure. With mysterious and complicated ties to the mob, he comes to the aid of Maureen (Amber Heard), the stunning and innocent new Bunny at the club, who accidentally kills the patriarch of the Bianchi crime family. Dating Nick is Carol-Lynne (Laura Benanti), a bombshell of a beauty and an established star at the Playboy Club who's ready to be more than a Bunny. As she seeks an opportunity to elevate her stature even higher at the club, she can't help but notice that something is developing between Nick and Maureen. Adding to the charm of the club is Janie (Jenna Dewan Tatum), the foxy and carefree life of the party who is dating Max (Wes Ramsey), a sweet and romantic bartender. Brenda (Naturi Naughton), a stunning beauty with a dry wit, has big aspirations. Bunny Alice (Leah Renee) manages to take care of everyone but herself, and while married, is hiding a huge secret from everyone. Pearl (Jenifer Lewis) is the club's seamstress who's been there since day one and knows more about what it takes to survive than anyone. Running the club and answering only to the top is general manager Billy Morton (David Krumholtz), who also shares a close friendship with Nick. With all of these larger-than-life ambitions, there are even greater secrets. It's a good thing Hef's Playboy Mansion is open after hours for a little R&R - and burying your past.

The Playboy Club is an American television series broadcast on NBC, it premiered on September 19, 2011. Set in 1963, the series centers around the employees (known as Bunnies) of the first Playboy Club in Chicago. NBC announced on May 12, 2011 that it had picked up the pilot as a series. Development on The Playboy Club began in 2009 under executive producer Chad Hodge. Originally the series was called Bunny Tales before being changed to Playboy and finally the current title. A co-production by 20th Century Fox Television and Imagine Entertainment, the series also includes Brian Grazer and Francie Calfo as executive producers.NBC ordered the pilot in January 2011, its first drama pilot order for the 2011–2012 television season. Playboy founder Hugh Hefner has the authority to review scripts for the series but according to Hodge has been very hands-off. Hefner recorded a narration for the pilot but that device will not be used in future episodes. A younger version of Hefner will appear in the series but will only be seen from the back. The series pilot was filmed on location in Chicago beginning March 15, 2011. Shooting took place at the former site of Meigs Field on Northerly Island under the direction of Alan Taylor. According to the Illinois Film Office, producers plan to shoot the upcoming series in Chicago as well. Chad Hodge wrote the pilot script.

The Bunnies have a wonderful opportunity presented to them. One of them will get to be the new covergirl for the Playboy Magazine. However, each will have to tell about their pasts which could compromise their standing at the club. Nick Dalton works to aquire political allies in his run to become the city's District Attorney.
