A pilot episode was produced for CTV in July 2007 under the Critical Incident title featuring most of the cast of the current series (but without either the characters Jules Callaghan or Lewis Young—the characters in the pilot were Kate Travers and Robert "Shakes" Boneyman and were portrayed by other actors). CTV's interest in the project led to Flashpoint being reworked as a regular CTV series which was approved in mid-December 2007.The show was unaffected by the 2007-08 WGA strike because WGC rules allow any members of the WGC living in Canada, including writers with dual WGA/WGC membership, to write for Canadian productions. Writers living in the USA with dual WGA/WGC membership were required to get a waiver from the WGA in order to work on Canadian productions during the strike....
Season Summary:
"Flashpoint" is an emotional journey following the lives of members of the SRU (Strategic Response Unit) as they solve hostage situations, bust gangs, and defuse bombs. They work by utilizing their training to get inside the heads of these people in order to make them reach their breaking point (aka their flashpoint).
Storyline:
When the Strategic Response Unit arrives, the rules change. The bad guy's caught - he just doesn't know it yet. The SRU, inspired by Toronto's Emergency Task Force, is a handpicked team of elite cops. High risk is their business and these men and women do it all: rescue hostages, bust gangs, defuse bombs. Talk down suicidal teens. Protect the Pope. They handle state-of-the-art weapons - sniper rifles, flash-bang grenades, tasers. They climb the sides of buildings. See through walls. But they're different from other SWAT teams. Because their arsenal also includes a gift for words. A knowledge of human intuition. An instinct for when it's time to negotiate - and when the 'solution' calls for something more. On the scene, they're in charge. No one knows their job better. SRU Constables outrank senior Inspectors - and the Inspectors don't like it...
Episode Summary:
During the season four finale, Team One races to a hospital when Fire Captain Simon Griggs (guest star Dylan Neal, Blood Ties) interrupts the attempted murder of a badly burned firefighter. When they corner the suspect, the team learns he’s behind a series of deadly fires in the neighbourhood. Meanwhile Fire Captain Simon Griggs is forced to make a horrific choice – one that pushes him to the edge of revenge and suicide. Parker, wrestling with his own decision about his future on Team One, must convince this broken man to live.
