The translation of Deewana can have different connotations from crazy to mad. Ekk Deewana Tha starts as a cool and crazy love story but by the end it could make you mad.

EKK DEEWANA THA has a few sparkling moments, that's about it. However, it lacks the fizz for the spectator to go deewana!

Gautham Menon has adapted the same iconic love story to Hindi as Ek Deewana Tha. Although he has his own dramatic and emotional moments, he fails to make the viewers completely absorb in the love story.
Glamsham - Martin D'Souza's Rating: 1.5
I understand that this film is a remake of some south film that has been a huge hit, but I dare say that it will not work here. The best the director could have done was change the Mallu angle and let Amy Jackson play the foreigner that she is. That would have been more believable.

Ekk Deewana Tha, Gautham Menon's Hindi remake of his hit Tamil film Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya, lost quite a bit in translation.
Hindustan Times - Mayank Shekhar's Rating: 1
Romantic Bollywood movies, as you’d know, get their titles from old Hindi film songs (Ekk Deewana Tha of course was a beautiful number, like Ek Mein Aur Ek Tu, Bachna Ae Haseeno, or Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham etc). This urban romance gets its subject from old Hindi pictures too. Which would be okay, I guess, except a wee bit similar to setting a village zamindar, wily moneylender and Thakur type picture in south Bombay.
India Today - Kaveree Bamzai's Rating: 1
We are supposed to feel the longing he has for Amy. We only feel the irritation. Get on with it guys you want to say. Come to the point. By the time they do you are exhausted, and want to do what Prateik says Amy's character did to his feelings-showed him the middle finger. So there.
