He is named after his grandfather, a USS Arizona casualty. McGarrett's father is murdered in the pilot episode, and this forms the basis for the series' first story arc. He is both physically and intellectually capable, being able to speak Hawaiian and Chinese fluently while also being able to engage a person in hand to hand combat as well as utilizing fieldcraft when needed. McGarrett utilizes close quarters combat as his primary means of taking down suspects, something he was taught during SEAL training. He is an experienced Navy SEAL, having graduated from the United States Naval Academy at the head of his class BUDS 203 and working in naval intelligence before joining the SEALs.....
Season Summary:
In an updated remake of the 1968 original series, Detective Steve McGarrett returns home to Oahu to investigate his father's murder and Hawaii's governor convinces him to stay and head up a new team with no rules and no red tape.Detective Danny "Danno" Williams joins the team in order to keep the island safe for his 8-year old daughter. Also joining the team is Chin Ho Kelly who was wrongfully accused of corruption and Chin's cousin Kono who is fresh out of the academy. While running the team, McGarrett also tries to repair his relationship with his estranged sister Mary Ann and continues to look for closure on his father's case.
Storyline:
Steve McGarrett returns home to Oahu, in order to find his father's killer. The governor offers him the chance to run his own task force (Five-O). Steve's team is joined by Chin Ho Kelly, Danny "Danno" Williams and Kono Kalakaua.
Episode Summary:
McGarrett is rocked to his core when Chin Ho tells him some shocking news about Joe White. Meanwhile, Danny plays mid-wife for his ex-wife when she goes into early labor.
