On the other end of the spectrum is Whitney and Alex's next-door neighbor Mark (Dan O'Brien), a police officer and total bachelor, who claims to be the ultimate player, but likes to talk a good game. At the end of the day, Whitney and Alex try to have a relationship on their own terms - in a world that expects a more traditional approach.

Whitney is an American television sitcom created by Whitney Cummings for NBC, who serves as the star, writer and producer. The series follows Cummings as an opinionated self-employed photographer and her live-in boyfriend of five years as they deal with trying to keep their relationship growing even if they're not married, with help from their friends. This will be one of two sitcoms for which Cummings will serve as co-creator and producer, as her Warner Bros. Television project for CBS, 2 Broke Girls was picked up at the same time as Whitney. For this one, Cummings also serves as the executive producer, creator and writer with Scott Stuber, Quan Phung and Betsy Thomas for Universal Media Studios. Beverly D'Angelo originally played Patti in the pilot episode before being officially replaced by Jane Kaczmarek. D'Angelo's scenes in the pilot were refilmed with Kaczmarek as a result. Whitney is the first multi-camera sitcom in NBC’s Thursday-night lineup since the short-lived Four Kings in 2006.
