The third roommate, Winston (Lamorne Morris), is an intensely competitive former athlete who has recently come to the realization that he'll never play pro. He moves back into the loft and must figure out how to live in a world without basketball - a world where not everything is about winning and losing.

On September 28, 2011, after two episodes aired, Fox ordered an additional 11 episodes to the initial 13-episode order, bringing the first season to 24 episodes. The series stars Zooey Deschanel as Jessica "Jess" Day, a well-liked, bubbly woman in her late 20s who is trying to get over her breakup with her boyfriend after he cheats on her. She eventually finds a new place to stay when she moves in with three guys: Nick, a bartender; Schmidt, a professional and modern-day Casanova; and Winston, a former basketball player. Rounding out this unlikely bunch is Jessica's street-smart model friend Cece. The series was created, produced and written by Elizabeth Meriwether for Chermin Entertainment and Fox Television Studios. Coach's departure in the second episode is due to Wayans' continuing role in the ABC sitcom Happy Endings after it was presumed to be canceled. He dropped out three semesters shy of his law degree.
Storyline:

Episode Summary:
Jess gets jealous when Winston joins her troubled-youth handbell quartet and instantly becomes a natural. Meanwhile Nick and Schmidt engage in class warfare when the toilet breaks and they each have their own idea of how to get it fixed.
